The 2011 Summer Service Award winner is Whitnee Hidalgo. Whitnee is a junior sociology major at Manchester College. Whitnee says: The
Hip Hop Caucus Education Fund was a life changing experience. The CEO and
founder, Rev. Lenox Yearwood, Jr., was a supportive and innovative leader who
helped mold me into the person I am now. Working for the Caucus gave me
opportunities to meet Senator Jessie Jackson and Major Dave Bing, as well as
hear former President Clinton speak. My placement at the HHC not only helped me
grow professionally but also personally. Being in DC helped me grow and evolve
as a person. The summer experience I had in DC working for an nonprofit changed
my life forever.
