2012 Award Recipient: Harry Grammer and New Earth

The Award recipients for 2012 are Harry Grammer and New Earth, the organization he founded. New Earth offers artistic enrichment, educational programs, and transition services that empower incarcerated and at-risk youth to begin a journey of self-discovery, releasing self-imposed and societal limits on their true potential.

2011 Award Recipient: Kids Can Make a Difference

The Award recipient for 2011 is Kids Can Make a Difference (www.kidscanmakeadifference.org). KIDS is recognized for its innovative educational efforts and curriculum materials for middle-school and high-school students that focus on how every individual can take action to address the root causes of hunger and poverty and help those most affected.

2010 Award Recipient: Fran Contrino Schmidt

The Award recipient for 2010 is Fran Contrino Schmidt. She is recognized for her lifetime commitment to the teaching of peacemaking skills to children. A public school teacher for over 30 years, Schmidt has created extensive peace education curricula, the Grace Contrino Abrams Peace Education Foundation, the Peace Education Foundation, and personally trained 1000's of teachers, parents, counselors, and school administrators in the U.S. and throughout the world to teach peacebuilding skills. Her work includes curriculum on how to deal with bullies, manage anger, build a caring classroom/school environment, creatively mediate conflict, peer mediation, and practice family peacemaking skills.

2009 Award Recipient: The Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood

The Award recipient for 2009 is the Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood, a national coalition of health care professionals, educators, advocacy groups, parents, and individuals headquartered at the Judge Baker Children's Center in Boston.

Recognizing that the commercialization of childhood is a key link between many of the most serious problems facing children and society today, CCFC’s mission is to reclaim childhood from corporate marketers. Through a broad range of initiatives, CCFC mobilizes parents, educators, and health care providers to stop the commercial exploitation of children. In short, CCFC works for the rights of children to grow up—and the freedom for parents to raise them—without being undermined by commercial interests. The award includes a $500 check and a framed certificate.

2008 Award Recipient: The Child and Adult Volunteers of the Lajee Center

The Josephine "Scout" Wollman Fuller Award recipients in 2008 were the Child and Adult Volunteers of the Lajee Center, AIDA Refugee Camp, Bethlehem. Amahl Bishara and Nidal Alazraq, who worked with the children at the Center, accepted the award for the Lajee Camp volunteers. Video excerpts from the 2008 award ceremony can be viewed below.
